Hello:Our objective is to encourage children and young people to do sport or physical activity in general and canoeing in particular. For this reason, every year we draw up a programme of activities in order to:
a) Promote canoeing. b) Teach sport techniques. c) Practise competitions. d) Enjoy canoeing as a game. Our club, more than forty years old, with its headquarters in Pontedeume, a village of about 9.000 inhabitants, has won the Spanish Championship several times and surprised everybody when one of its canoeists became the CHAMPION OF EUROPE. Nowadays some of our sportsmen are taking part in international competitions. Let me tell you that more than 100 sportsmen with federative licence train with us regularly to compete, and more than 2,000 people do canoeing at least once a year in the variety of activities we offer: canoeing just for fun, canoeing adapted to disabled people, teaching sport techniques and our programme “Firrete-Adventure”. Our club also organises “BAIXADA DO EUME EN PIRAGUA”, one of the most famous boat races in Spain in Descents of Sportive Rivers, being the third oldest competition in Galicia. This year 2013, the 47th descent will take place, counting towards Xunta de Galicia Cup; three hundred sportsmen -many of them of international renown- who belong to forty clubs will take part in it. Yours faithfully Ramiro Piñeiro Oliveira President of Firrete Club |
